More Info On Abbey West Apartments

Alright, so we've reviewed a few Athens Georgia apartments on this blog, and I think I've been fair and just. That's why I want to be honest and say I've only been to this Athens Georgia Apartment complex a few times. But I've had several requests for a review, so I'm going to give you what I know about Abbey West.

Abbey West Is Student Living - If You Want To Take The Bus

It looks like they bill themselves as Student Living, but don't let that give you the impression its anywhere near campus. Abbey West is on the east-side of athens where Hwy 316 (connects Atlanta to Athens) and The Atlanta Highway (which used to be the connector from Atlanta to Athens) meet. Its several miles from campus. So if you don't want to take the bus, you'll still need to figure out the parking nightmare.

Abbey West - is a very nice apartment complex, if you like cookie-cutter design. It reminds me of the apartments you find in Gwinnett County. Abbey West is one of the newer apartments in Athens, so there shouldn't be any issues.

Tara Apartments Athens GA A Likely Dud?

When you see Tara from the street you think, man this is a cool place to live. The entrances are grand, the landscaping pristine. From all outward appearances, Tara apartments Athens Georgia is a great place to visit.

Of course visiting Tara apartments and living in Tara Apartments are 2 totally seperate things.  When you are thinking about moving to Athens Georgia, you should make it a priority to check these places in person.

Spring Lake Apartments Athens Georgia is an Oasis

When you pull into Spring Lake Apartments of Athens GA you immediately know your moving somewhere special. The landscaping the apartment complex does is pristine, the buildings a neatly placed on the surprisingly large plot of land. Of course the garbage piles up sometime ath Spring Lake Athens, but other than this its known as one of the better run apartments in town.

When a friend of mine lived there for a while, I pretty much lived there too. The exterior is nicer than the inside. It looks a little older on the inside, but my friend never really had a problem.

This was once the haven of the young professional, but times they are a changing. There were a couple of hot parties at Spring Lake last year (college students celebrating, I mean this is a college town for heavans' sakes): I guess apartment hunters in Athens finally fell for its charm.

Overall Spring Lake Athens Apartments are a solid 6.5

Positives about Spring Lake Apartments Athens GA

• EastSide Living Is Easy (especially for the college student in you)
• Beautiful landscaping. Your friends will be jealous
• Friendly management staff

Negative aspects of Spring Lake Apartments Athens GA

• Formerly home to the young professional, now more of a college crowd
• Apartments some of the oldest in Athens Georgia
• New Management always a question mark

Overall, Spring Lake Apartments of Athens Georgia are solid. You won't be sad you moved there, and like I said your friends will be jealous.

Cambridge Apartments, Athens, GA, Clarke County

I knew a lot of people who lived in Cambridge Apartments In East Athens. Everybody I know that lived there liked the management and apartments. The apartments were large and comfortable, though the apartments are one of Athens' Oldest, and could have used a nenovation when I was there last.

The Not So Positive About Cambridge Athens

• The location is good, but it seems like everybody in Athens comes right by the apartment complex on Barnett Shoals Road between 4 or 5, so either be home, or be away, you won't be able to get in or out of the apartment complex for an hour or two each afternoon
• They're kind of Old. Okay old doesn't mean "not nice" and Cambridge is one of the cleanest and nicest apartments in Athens Georgia. Like I said, the last time I was at Cambridge, it needed an update, but maybe some new paint and carpet have solved the problems.
• If you have kids, this may not be your best bet.

This list of givens with any apartment in Athens Georgia - This list is by no means complete

1. Athens Police will show up at your apartment complex at some point. It will likely be late, and it will likely be loud when it occurs
2. You will never be able to park in all of your assigned spots. If the Apartment Complex assigns you 2 spots, only one will be open
3. The Laundry Rooms are always full. C'mon, its a bunch of college students. What do you expect?

All in all, Athens Georgia is about the best place you could possibly live. The choices of apartments is endless, and you can find good apartments right next to ones that, well... need a little work. Hopefully, I'll be able to help you put some positives and negatives. I plan to be brutally honest.

Secret is there is no secret - Finding an Apartment in Athens Georgia (or anywhere for that matter) is as personal as the sheets you'll put on your bed when you move in.

The First Step To Finding Your New Apartment In Athens Georgia Is Obvious

You need to (you probably already have) figure out why you are moving to Athens Georgia.

• Are you going to School in Athens? Which one?
• Did you just get a new cool job?
• Retiring
• Are you the next R.E.M.?
• Are you a bum - How are you going to afford an apartment?

If you are moving to go to U.G.A., you may not want to rent an apartment right next to Georgia Square Mall, especially if you don't have a car. Sure there's the mass-transit system but I wouldn't recommend that from that far out.

UPDATE: A friendly rep from Athens Transit contacted us and wanted to make sure we made clear that transit service is available to Georgia Square Mall:

Currently there is a bus at the mall once an hour all day long, 6 days a week, from 7 am- 9pm. In the fall of 08, there will be additional services added to the west side of town and 1/2 hour services will be avalible during paek hours al the way out to Mitchell Bridge rd and the new Exchange apartments.

I try not to be confusing, so I wanted to post that.  So I'm going to change the previous statement a little:

If you are moving to go to U.G.A., you may not want to rent an apartment right next to Georgia Square Mall, especially if you don't have a car.   Sure there's the mass-transit system but I wouldn't recommend that from that far out, unless you plan on hitching a ride home after a show at The Georgia Theatre at 2A.M.,  never taking a 7A.M. class or attend night school. If you just got a management job at a local business, you probably don't want to rent an apartment in downtown Athens (unless your managing a record company).

In fact, unless you are managing a record company, I wouldn't recommend an apartment in Downtown Athens Georgia......

This Athens Georgia Apartments Guide Will Be Different

You can read the cookie-cutter apartment reviews on those big corporate websites, but you won't find out the negatives.  This Athens GA Apartments guide will.

Is it a quiet apartment complex with twenty-somethings that have a good time on the weekend, or a party-pad where the students spend 18 hours out on their back decks screaming how bad the Dawgs are going to beat the other team this Saturday.   I've lived in both, and you don't want to end up in the wrong apartment.

All Athens Georgia Apartments are Not The Same

I would never recommend leasing an apartment in Athens (or anywhere else for that matter) without visiting it, and even talking to a few residents.  It goes without saying that if you can get a resident away from the staff, you'll get a lot more "honest" review.  We hope people living in apartments in Athens will add their voice to this blog as well.
